The Hull York Medical School at the University of York seeks to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching & Research) in Public Health Nutrition to support teaching, learning and assessment across the School, and to develop research in the area of public health nutrition.

The Hull York Medical School is a different kind of Medical School. The joint medical school of the Universities of Hull and York, we have a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting, contemporary schools. Our innovative curriculum and focus on problem-based learning and early and sustained clinical exposure ensures that students on our MB BS programme develop the problem solving, analytical and communication skills and resilience needed to deliver a high standard of care to people with complex needs and from a variety of backgrounds. Role

The purpose of this role is to support teaching, learning and assessment across the School, and to develop research in the areas of nutrition (or nutrition related subjects (e.g. human growth and development/anthropology)) and quantitative evaluation methods. You will have experience of delivering research to a high standard, bringing specialised knowledge in their subject area, and the ability to support funding activities, deliver research leadership and contribute to the strategic development of research. We are particularly looking for candidates with expertise in experimental design and research methods, public health solutions to nutrition and food challenges, and skills in data management, analysis, coding and analysis. The posts offer exciting opportunities to contribute to the development of the School and for the successful candidate to develop their teaching and research career at the University of York.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

Essential criteria assessable at shortlisting include:

  • PhD in nutrition or nutrition related subject (e.g. human growth and development/anthropology), or equivalent experience.
  • Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
  • Specialist knowledge in nutrition, human growth and development / anthropology.
  • Research expertise in public health nutrition.
  • Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals.
  • Well-developed quantitative analytical skills across a range of approaches, including complex regression modelling, systems evaluation and consensus methods.
  • Ability to deliver presentations at conferences and other events, internally and externally.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others, for example in research teams or projects or as an MSc PhD or postdoctoral supervisor.
  • Ability to lead on funding applications and track record in successful grant income.
  • Experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate and ideally postgraduate level.
  • Evidence of dissemination of research findings.
  • Willingness to work proactively with colleagues in other work areas/institutions.
  • Commitment to personal development and updating of knowledge and skills.
