Applications are invited for a Reader Services Manager – Library Services in IT, Library and Technical Services (ILTS).  This role is a part time (28 hours per week) and permanent role and reports to the Head of Library Services, who you will deputise for when needed.  These hours will include an evening and weekend shift on a rota basis as standard.   This is a campus-based role with some flexibility to work from home.

Purpose of the Post

To lead the delivery of user-focussed Reader Services. This includes managing the Reader Services team with responsibility for access, circulation, membership and enquiry services to users across the College campuses. In addition, lead the provision of research, information and digital literacy support to staff and students. Contribute to the strategic development of the Library service as part of the Library Management Team, together with the Head of Library Services and Information Services Manager.

Main duties and responsibilities

Provide leadership and direction to the Reader Services team. This includes academic liaison, collection development and delivery of research and literacy skills.

Lead the delivery of enquiry services, both online and in person to staff and students across all campuses.

Manage access, circulation, and membership activities, including responsibility for relevant policies and procedures in the administration of lending activities and user records.

Provide strategic direction to the Academic Liaison Librarians in collection development of print and online resources through liaison with academic staff to ensure the Library has the relevant resources to support teaching and research activities across all campuses.

Lead the promotion of Library collections and services through social media and other student engagement forums.

Lead the development of the Reader Services team to ensure all staff are fully trained and equipped with the skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality services. This includes staff recruitment, induction, training, appraisals, and performance management.

Contribute to strategic planning, decision making and policy development as part of the Library Management Team, working closely with the Head of Library Services and the Information Services Manager.

Collect, monitor and analyse data and feedback to help improve Library services. This includes active student engagement to support a positive student experience. 

Represent the Library at College and external meetings as required.
