About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences as a teaching focused Lecturer in actuarial and/or data science, where you will undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in actuarial and data science, whilst inspiring interest, curiosity and drive for learning in our students.
You will play an instrumental role in equipping our graduates with specialist knowledge and important transferable skills that are valued by employers, whilst helping our students manage their projects and provide a high level of professionalism and quality assurance.
To inform your teaching and development you will engage in scholarship (teaching-related, empirical or pedagogical research) and play an active role in sharing your expertise across the College, University and beyond. You will be closely supported in your development by an experienced and cohesive teaching team that has been developing and delivering actuarial science education at the University of Leicester for more than 15 years.
Flexibility is at the core of our approach here at the University of Leicester. You will not always need to be based on the University campus but be available for face-to-face commitments in Leicester as required.
This role is at Grade 8 (£43,155 to £59,450 per annum) and there is a market supplement of £10,000 per annum (non-pensionable) payable for fully qualified actuarial status (Fellow of the Institute/Faculty of Actuaries).
About you
You will bring a range of experience and be passionate to teach actuarial science. By relating the subject to industry experience you will inspire our students to be the best they can be by developing their technical and broader workplace skills. You will take a student-centred approach, putting them at the heart of everything you do.
Our programmes range across both Core Principles and Core Practices subjects and we are looking for candidates with a strong motivation for teaching in several specialist areas across financial mathematics, economics, statistics, data science, mathematical modelling and risk management. You should have teaching experience in data science and/or actuarial science at Core Principles or Practices level or alternatively and equivalently extensive professional experience in the actuarial/financial industry.
Additional information
We would welcome hearing from interested applicants with a range of experience in the area of actuarial science, including those with industry experience.
For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Leena Sodha on leena.sodha@leicester.ac.uk or Helen Emery on he28@le.ac.uk.
We anticipate that interviews will take place during early May 2023.
