The Department of Education is seeking to appoint three Senior Resource Developers/Subject Reviewers in Science Education, one in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  You will join the internationally recognised University of York Science Education Group (UYSEG). The posts are part time (0.4FTE) and available from September 2023 for one year.

Role

You will be working on the development of research-informed resources for Oak National Academy for school students aged 11-16.  You will be working as part of a team led by Alistair Moore and Peter Fairhurst, the senior project staff for UYSEG’s highly regarded Best Evidence Science Teaching (BEST) project.

You will have extensive classroom experience of teaching your subject at ages 11-16, and of developing resources for use by colleagues in a school/schools (e.g. a responsibility for developing resources for a Key Stage and/or developing resources to support a Scheme of Work).

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • A first degree in Biology or Chemistry or Physics, or a related subject area.
  • Teaching qualification, e.g. Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or equivalent in a science subject
  • Substantial direct experience of teaching in a school/schools following the English National Curriculum for science in Key Stages 3 or 4
  • Experience developing research-informed, professional quality pedagogy materials and tests for use by others in KS3/4 settings
  • Knowledge of a range of pedagogy techniques to enthuse and engage school pupils
  • Demonstrable ability to plan and prioritise own work and lead, train and plan the work of others in order to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to provide regular, informative and accurate reports, identify issues and suggest solutions or improvements
  • Commitment to personal development and updating of knowledge and skills
