The Faculty of Classics and Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics invite applications for a 3-year fixed-term Departmental Lecturer in Classical Philology, specializing or seeking to specialize in pre-classical Latin and Latin historical linguistics. The appointee will be employed by the Faculty of Classics and will hold a Supernumerary Fellowship at Wolfson College.
The postholder is expected to engage in advanced study and research in any aspect of Latin linguistics, and to lecture and teach both undergraduate and graduate students.
You will also be expected to engage in examination assessment, admissions processes, and Faculty administration.
About you
You will hold a doctorate in Latin philology or a related field, by the start of the post, and have the ability and willingness to teach undergraduate students at the highest level, in classes and/or tutorials, as well as a strong commitment to the tutorial system
You will also have sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in the subject, a willingness to remedy the inevitable gaps in knowledge that a new lecturer may have, and a strong research and publication record, appropriate to your career stage, in Latin philology and linguistics, or a related field.
You will be able to collaborate effectively with colleagues in a college and faculty environment.
