The role

To provide a key service in the day-to-day operation of Residential properties by undertaking general and minor repairs and decorations, maintaining security and supporting good relations with students, residents and guests.

What will you be doing?

The post-holder will be responsible for carrying out day-to-day reactive and preventative maintenance, with particular commitment to reactive maintenance to ensure that agreed service level agreements are achieved and maintained. This will include routine or cyclical programmed work that could include painting and decorating, basic plumbing, tiling (floor and wall), carrying out regular fire alarm testing and portable appliance testing, along with other work deemed suitable by the Maintenance Team leader or Facilities Coordinator.

You will become the main point of contact with Departmental users in the event of repairs being necessary. Maintaining close contact with the University’s Estates Department for professional advice, support and supplies and assisting other trades personnel such as Electricians, Plumbers, Fitters and Carpenter/Joiners with routine and emergency work or when responding to work requests involving breakdowns, installations and testing.

You should apply if

  • Experience of general building and construction-based work including maintenance and repair of building fabric, painting and decorating, basic plumbing, tiling (floor and wall), plastering etc.
  • Good level of knowledge of large, complex built environment and different building services found in various buildings, in particular relating to repair and maintenance.
  • Must be adaptable when time pressures mean that alterations to work pattern are necessary, to ensure the continued functioning of buildings.
  • The ability to interact well with both staff and Students.
  • A reasonable level of literacy is required in order to maintain accurate records.
  • A Full driving licence.

Additional information

The role may require you to work some weekends or evenings and includes Bank Holiday and Closure Days, as required.
