This is a fixed term contract for 2 years. 

LSE Health is seeking to appoint a full-time Research Fellow to support an EU Horizon project in cardiovascular medicine, called HYPERMARKER. The postholder will work independently, under the supervision of Dr Alex Carter to evaluate the costs and benefits associated with a novel decision support system for the prescription of antihypertensive drugs for the treatment of chronic hypertension. Chronic hypertension is a major health concern that corresponds to 10% of total EU health expenditure. 

The Research Fellow will be expected to support the design and delivery of the health economics work package, including delivery of an economic evaluation and an evidence-informed implementation plan. The role will involve desk and field-based activities, including literature reviews, data collection, data analyses using statistical and qualitative methods, synthesising mixed methods data, analysing clinical trial data, contributing to the drafting of reports and journal articles and to the dissemination of findings to relevant stakeholders, including care professionals, funders, policymakers, and other academics. 

Candidates should have:

  • A Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as health economics, epidemiology, health services research, health policy or social policy, with qualitative and quantitative methods training and/or experience that includes the conduct of economic evaluations.
  • A PhD or other research experience that demonstrates the capacity to produce independent original research in this field.
  • Experience of carrying out evaluations of interventions in clinical research or a related area of medicine or healthcare.
  • Experience of managing junior researchers or assisting in the running of a large research group
  • An interest in health economics and policy research and evaluation methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate research findings effectively.
