Applications are invited for a Senior Teaching Fellow to support the work of I-X and the I-X AI in Science Centre. I-X is Imperial’s new flagship interdisciplinary campus devoted to AI and its applications. It is located within Imperial’s Translation and Innovation Hub (I-HUB) and I-X hosts academics from across Imperial’s departments and faculties. Its aim is to bring together AI, interdisciplinary grand challenges, and industry. The I-X AI in Science Centre supported by Schmidt Futures will support over 130 years of prestigious independent and original research by fellows using AI to advance science. The Schmidt Futures grant lasts 6 years with over twenty fellows hosted in any year. Critically it has a strong aspect of training fellows from diverse backgrounds in topics in AI. The Centre will have a pro-social orientation with an emphasis on kindness and ways in which the advantage it creates can in turn create opportunities in local schools and for researchers in Lower and Middle Income countries.
The Senior Teaching Fellow will have a key role in enhancing and supporting the training of the I-X AI in Science Fellows and in developing and supporting educational programmes within I-X more broadly.
Duties and responsibilities
The Senior Teaching Fellow will organize the courses run through the I-X AI in Science Centre (including developing and running the AI Advanced Courses Hub website), teach the Python coding week, co-ordinate the ‘Breaking Topics in AI’ week, support international teaching by fellows in LMIC partners, curate open online material for all Imperial postdocs, prepare the teaching material in the pre-acceleration welcome pack, organize the filming and upload of the minicourses and coordinate sharing of teaching materials with other Schmidt Futures Centres.
I-X is also developing new teaching programmes including a masters programme. The Fellow will thus develop, manage, and execute the planning process of new educational programmes in the I-X initiative and connect them to the College Learning & Teaching strategy including supporting any Director of a new I-X MSc. The postholder will contribute primarily to the coordination of educational modules within the I-X initiative, the direction of programmes and the development of innovative approaches that foster cross-disciplinary learning and teaching opportunities.
