Background

The School of Science and Technology, which offers a wide range of courses at Bachelors and Masters level within its four departments, with its research being organized across 12 multi-disciplinary Research Centres. The Robotic, Autonomy and Machine Intelligence (RAMI) group where this post is located is an internationally well-established research group. More details can be found here: www.ramigroup.co.uk

Responsibilities

RAMI Group as part of our Engineering Department is seeking to appoint on fixed term contract for 15 months (extendable depending on Performance and available budget) a Research Fellow in AI and Autonomous Systems. The fellow will develop and validate algorithms related to:

  • Vision based Deep learning GNC designs for autonomous vehicles (space, drones and ground vehicles).
  • Deep Learning for Perception (Detection, Classification and Tracking) for autonomous vehicles.
  • Vehicle’s dynamics and modelling
  • Adversarial learning for autonomous systems.
  • Embedding algorithm in dedicated computing hardware
  • Hardware in the loop implementation of the algorithm in dedicated robotic setups.

The Fellow will be on working on a prestigious research programs with funded by prestigious partners such as European Space Agency (ESA) and other industrial partners.

Person Specification

Applicants should hold a PhD (obtained or nearly finished) in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Aeronautical) or Computer Science is required. Capability to carry out research on one or more of the following areas: Autonomous Vehicles, AI and Deep Learning, Vision based GNC, Robotics, Computer vision, Embedded and Realtime Systems is required.
