The Centre for Learning Enhancement and Educational Development (LEED) harnesses Manchester Met’s strengths in digitally-enhanced education, academic development, education innovation and co-curricular excellence. Our work is cross-functional, institution-wide and dedicated to driving education practice and innovation around the five themes of the University’s education strategy - future-focused curriculum and delivery, excellent student experience, DELTA (Digitally Enhanced Learning Teaching and Assessment), excellent graduate futures and supported and empowered staff.
If you can lead and coordinate the work of academic development, this is your chance to join us as Assistant Director, Learning Enhancement and Educational Development (LEED) and play a key role in our strategic and operational leadership – with a focus on the University Teaching Academy (UTA) team of 8 Academic Developers.
About us
With over 4,000 staff members and around 40,000 students – including some 6,000 choosing to study for a postgraduate qualification – we are a big institution with even bigger ambitions. We are proud to be an integral part of the great city of Manchester, but in fact our impact reaches around the globe.
About the role
Offering support, leadership, advice and guidance on all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment, UTA, as an integral part of LEED, works with faculties and professional services teams across the University, developing teaching and learning policy, and academic practice. The suite of educator development opportunities offered ranges from one-off workshops to 12 month career development programmes and taught postgraduate certificate and masters courses. Also provided are Advance HE Fellowship routes: Associate, Fellow, Senior and Principal Fellow.
As a member of the LEED senior team, you will have specific leadership responsibility for UTA, ensuring that the team’s objectives align with strategic aims, delivering cross-team collaboration within and beyond LEED, and supporting and enabling the delivery of the University’s Education and People Strategies. You will also be expected to build partnerships with external agencies and professional bodies in order to engage in collaborative work, generate educational research and evaluation income and enhance the University’s reputation. The ability to deliver core provision across the range of UTA activities is also essential.
About you
Your significant track record in programme and curriculum management includes co-ordinating deployment of staff and allocation of resources, leading, motivating and supporting teams, coaching and providing performance related feedback, and ensuring continuous improvement. With significant experience in teaching and facilitating staff development – including applying innovative approaches when developing programmes, curriculum and assessments. You have designed, delivered and evaluated academic CPD and developed assessments at postgraduate level, drawing on appropriate knowledge of HE benchmarks, quality assurance frameworks and the wider regulatory context.
We are looking for evidence of the use of initiative, creativity and judgement in taking the lead to develop approaches to supporting and empowering our educators, as well as undertaking research and scholarly activities, preparing reports and proposals, presenting at national/international level, developing new partnerships and securing new income streams. You will be a confident communicator, able to influence and persuade senior academic and professional services stakeholders. In addition, you will have strong educational development professional networks enabling you to draw upon sector wide best practice.
