About the role
The position of Research Software Engineer (RSE) is key to the delivery of many of the core services of QMUL ITS Research. The RSE team are a centralised team within ITS Research, supporting researchers across the whole university.
We are seeking an experienced R programmer to join the team. This is a varied and interesting role, with exposure to a range of exciting short/long term research projects, particularly those involving popular data science techniques and expert knowledge of the R programming language.
Supporting the development of research software is a primary objective of this role, working closely with the rest of the ITS Research team, and complementing the existing skillsets within the RSE team. The post holder will work closely with research staff and students to help them and their wider research community. In addition to developing new and existing code, there will be an emphasis on promoting good software engineering practices, including testing, code quality, documentation, data management, and the use of version control and continuous integration. There is an additional focus on reproducibility, usability and software sustainability.

The Research Software Engineer also supports researchers with smaller scale research software projects including the development of packages and libraries, bugfixes and dissemination of research tools and outputs.

The post is based at Department W in London, Whitechapel. It is full time, permanent appointment. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £42,405-£49,785 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
