About us: As Fire Safety Adviser you will play a vital role in the Health and Safety Team and will focus on the development and implementation of the University’s Fire Safety Management System and act as the University's appointed competent fire safety person.
Your work will require partnership working across all the University’s academic College’s and Professional Services, though particular support and focus on the University’s Estates Team. As Fire Safety Adviser you will operate across all three of our campuses and their full range of activities which includes student accommodation, hospitability, sport, events and teaching and research which ranges from art, robotics, engineering, sciences, healthcare.
The role is the Health and Safety Team’s main contact for all fire safety matters including fire risk assessments, fire risk mitigations, advice, support, training, and audit. To facilitate your work this role is front facing and campus based.
The Team’s work has already achieved a strong devolved health and safety approach. As the University looks ahead to 2030 and the implementation of its Strategy 2030, there will be a focused continual improvement on health, safety, and fire.
The development and implementation of this ambitious Roadmap is driven by the Health and Safety Team.
About you: We are looking for someone who has a IQ Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety or other equivalent level 4 fire safety qualification. Who meets the competency criteria for fire risk assessors and is at least a graduate member of the IFE or other relevant professional body. You will be someone with substantial experience and a comprehensive knowledge in fire safety having worked within large, complex organisations with a broad range of fire safety risks.
Your experience should include developing, implementing, and managing risk assessment programmes, supporting, and advising upon fire safety in new building projects, alterations implementing and delivering fire safety training and conducting fire safety audits. There is also a very practical element of the role requiring management of the firefighting provision contract and development and delivery of the University’s fire drill programme.
The role will require extensive utilisation of these packages for analysing data, monitoring and management of fire risk assessment actions and producing reports to all levels at the University.
