The Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, King’s College London, invites applications from forward-thinking genetics researchers for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Medical and Molecular Genetics.

We are looking for applicants with an expanding research profile and an interest in developing a strong, internationally recognised research programme which focuses on the genetic mechanisms of disease. This individual will be based in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics where there are established research programmes in both computational and molecular approaches to human genetics, including research groups focused on the genetics of common and rare disease, mitochondrial genomics, epigenetics and developmental gene regulation. The successful applicant will develop a competitive research programme which will complement and enhance the world-class research portfolio of the department. The ideal candidates research interests will have the potential to bridge research interests between Departments within the School of Basic and Medical Biosciences (Cell and Molecular Biophysics, Molecular and Medical Genetics, Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine, Dermatology and Human and Applied Physiological Sciences). The successful candidate will foster collaborative possibilities with research and education across the wider Faculty of Life Science and Medicine and beyond.

The appointee will be a skilled educator and contribute to undergraduate and post-graduate teaching across our Genetics teaching department programmes.

You should hold a PhD in an appropriate area, have an excellent publication record, experience in attracting peer reviewed research grant funding and experience in undergraduate and/or post graduate teaching.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria @ Grade 8, Senior Lecturer

  • PhD/DPhil Degree in relevant subject area
  • Significant expertise in the field of Genetics relevant to the post
  • Substantial experience of delivery of undergraduate teaching in genetics with course development, lectures and tutorials
  • Record of attracting peer reviewed research grant funding or fellowships
  • Outstanding track-record of high-impact research publications
  • Ability to define and lead a research area, taking responsibility for planning and undertaking own work.
  • Ability to work well as an effective member of a wider multi-disciplinary team and to share and encourage good practice
  • Experience in supervising and developing research students and/or research staff.
  • Experience in contribution to academic administration

Desirable criteria @ Grade 8, Senior Lecturer

  • Experience of teaching programme development
  • Experience of working in collaborative projects across disciplines
  • Experience of serving on professional scientific boards and committees

Essential Criteria @ Grade 7, Lecturer

  • PhD/DPhil Degree
  • Expertise in the field of Genetics research relevant to the post
  • Experience of undergraduate and/or post graduate teaching in genetics
  • Record of publication in peer reviewed journals
  • Demonstrable contribution to developing peer reviewed funding/fellowship applications.
  • Ability to define and lead a research area, taking responsibility for planning and undertaking own work.
  • Ability to work well as an effective member of a wider multi-disciplinary team and to share and encourage good practice

Desirable criteria @ Grade 7, Lecturer

  • Experience of teaching programme and/or curriculum development.
  • Record of attracting independent peer reviewed research grant funding

Experience in supervising and developing research students and/or staff
