The Opportunity

The Estates Department of the University of Edinburgh is recruiting for an Asset Manager within the Estates Operations team. The successful candidate will lead and deliver the University Estates Department Asset Strategy and five Asset Management Plans.

The Asset Manager has a critical role to play in ensuring that the University's assets are understood, managed and maintained to the highest possible standard, ensuring the safety of students and staff, whilst providing assurance that the University is meeting its legal and statutory obligations in relation to building maintenance. 

Reporting to the Head of Building Services the role holder will be responsible for leading on the implementation of key objectives from the University’s Asset Management strategy. This is an important management and technical role within Estates Operations, contributing to the strategic maintenance planning of the estate with responsibility for ensuring University buildings and facilities are accessible and maintained in accordance with current legislation in a safe and effective manner.

This position will also play an important role in contributing to the strategic direction of the University as we move towards achieving our sustainability goals of becoming zero carbon by 2040.

Your Skills and Attributes For Success

  • Relevant qualification level in a construction based subject or equivalent extensive experience.
  • Professional qualification i.e., MCIBSE, MIET, IWFM or CEng.
  • Extensive knowledge of the ISO 55000 suite of standards and the practical implementation to deliver improvements in asset management.
  • Good working knowledge of asset management principles and knowledge and experience of maintenance & engineering systems, policies, legislation and quality standards required for safe operation of a complex estate.
  • Understanding of risk management and how this can be applied in the context of asset management.
  • Experience of working with CAFM systems and appropriate reporting.
  • Budget management and cost estimating experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience with an attention to detail.
  • Awareness of and ability to relate to stakeholders as clients/customers.
  • Evident skills in influencing, communicating effectively and persuasively at a range of levels.
