The Student Services team is based in the Bernard King Library and provides a fully integrated support service for students at Abertay, which aims to provide high quality professional, impartial, non-judgemental advice and guidance on a broad range of issues.
The University now seeks to appoint a professionally qualified and experienced Counsellor. The position is part-time for 2 days per week x 52 weeks working on the Abertay University Campus offering in person and online appointments. The vacancy would suit a flexible and adaptable person with excellent communication skills at all levels who can respond to the demands of the service. You must be able to work independently and as a member of the team.
Reporting to the Manger of the service, You will carry an individual caseload, working with a brief time limited model, contribute to the delivery of wellbeing initiatives and play an active part within the counselling & mental Health team. The work will involve assessing clients, deciding on whether further sessions would be helpful, managing risk as well as possibly some workshop delivery.
You will be BACP (or equivalent) accredited or be eligible for accreditation with appropriate post qualifying hours and experience. You will have a clear understanding of the application of counselling in a higher education or further education institution. You will be positive and committed and have an awareness and sensitivity in working with a culturally diverse client group.
Interviews are expected to take place on campus, on the 23rd of January, and will involve a presentation, case study, and a competency-based interview.
