iiCON is a world leading centre for infection innovation and R&D – working with industry, academics, and clinicians to save and improve lives around the world by supporting innovation and progressing the development of antimicrobial products and treatments. iiCON is led by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) who is a globally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases.

iiCON has seen exponential growth since it was established in 2020 currently has a £250m portfolio. After securing additional funding, the expansion is continuing and we’re looking for a Senior Business Development Manager to work alongside iiCON’s CEO, Professor Janet Hemingway, CBE.

The main purpose of the role is to lead on the development of new partnerships, alongside providing expertise and guidance on the best routes to market for the innovative products iiCON have developed in recent years.

This role is focused within the robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence space so previous hands-on, technical experience within this arena is essential, along with a relevant PhD qualification. You will bring a high level of commercial acumen and the ability to translate the purpose of the projects into attractive business propositions to potential clients and partners to gain investment and funding.

Another key part of the role will involve working collaboratively to establish and validate the Cat 3 Mobile robotics and AI space to get this to a point where it can be offered through the iiCON programme.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing new business prospects, including extensive scoping of potential external partners, establishing contact and triaging leads to nurture viable business development opportunities in the new mobile robotics Cat 3 area
  • Responsibility for expanding the iiCON network of external stakeholders through proactive business development, including participating in relevant networking/partnering events
  • Work in support and alignment with the iiCON programme communications strategy
  • Responsible for negotiation of deals, including formalities to close

The ideal candidate will have outstanding business development skills and a track record of independently negotiating and concluding high level deals, in addition to:

  • PhD in Science/Engineering or Business field
  • Degree in relevant engineering, AI, robotics or Business field
  • Network of business contacts relevant to the robotics, AI and machine learning landscape
