Do you have experience operating/supporting ethical review processes with the ability to explain complex procedures clearly to others?

Do you have excellent attention to detail and can efficiently manage your own workload to work to tight timescales?   

If the answer is yes, then the role of Research Ethics Officer could be ideal.

In this role you will provide dedicated support to the University’s Central Research Ethics Committee, by facilitating the research ethics review process in which researchers are required to apply to for their research activity. You will play a critical role in maintaining best practice in the ethical review of research projects and compliance with funder and legislative requirements.

As a Research Ethics Officer your duties will include:

  • Supporting the ongoing development of research ethics processes, for example the introduction and implementation of new operating procedures, policies and systems, and participating in training activities
  • Liaising with the Research and Innovation Support local delivery teams, and other relevant staff, in facilitating the internal ethical review process for proposals being submitted to external funding agencies
  • Help design and deliver training in university ethics and governance procedures and provide induction for new members of the ethics committees
  • Respond to general queries and provide accurate and timely advice in relation to complex matters about research ethics applications and the University procedures.

The successful candidate will have/be:

  • Educated to A Level or equivalent
  • Experience of acting as a source of expert advice and communicating complex or specialised information to colleagues with varying levels of knowledge or experience of the subject
  • A thorough appreciation of ethical issues in relation to research and the requirements of a process to review these issues
  • Experience of operating or supporting an ethical review process in higher education or similar professional environment
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy
