PhD Academy Assistant Manager (Research in Practice)

Salary from £40,229 to £48,456 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £52,095 pa inclusive of London allowance.

This is a fixed term appointment, running to 31 March 2028.

The PhD Academy offers centralised services, social space and advanced training to the School’s doctoral students. It also hosts the LSE Economic and Social Research Council Doctoral Training Partnership (LSE ESRC DTP).

The PhD Academy is looking to appoint an Assistant Manager responsible for management of the Research in Practice (RP) remit within the LSE ESRC DTP. This is an exciting new role, supporting new provision that will enhance the employability of the LSE’s research students. The role holder will be responsible for ensuring that the LSE ESRC DTP delivers a suite of options aimed at developing DTP students’ skills in a number of core areas relating to employability, including the ability to (i) apply research skills in different research contexts, (ii) collaborate across sectoral and disciplinary boundaries, (iii) communicate with impact, (iv) develop networks, entrepreneurship and leadership skills, and (v) proactively engage in their own personal development and career direction.

The role holder will be required to collaborate closely with LSE SPRING, LSE Generate, LSE Careers, and the PhD Academy’s Research Partnerships management team in ensuring that the RP remit is delivered within the overall framework of the School’s doctoral training provision, and PhD placements and internships offering. The role holder will be employed within the PhD Academy, will sit with the PhD Academy’s management group, and will deputise for the PhD Academy Manager in managing the DTP and other PhD Academy operational areas as required. As the role is student-facing, a minimum of 50% on campus working will be required, and the role holder will attend and support in person DTP events and activities.

Candidates should have:

  • excellent IT skills, including high-level working knowledge of Microsoft365 and other collaborative working platforms;
  • the ability to communicate complex information effectively and efficiently – both orally and in writing, in both formal and informal settings – to a wide range of stakeholder types;
  • proven ability to develop high quality relationships with colleagues from different academic disciplines and professional backgrounds in pursuit of shared objectives, and;
  • the ability to co-ordinate and ensure delivery of services across multiple teams and functions in pursuit of core objectives.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
