The Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building (DCHB) is occupied by the Department of Biochemistry and the Kavli Institute for NanoScience Discovery.  It is currently the largest research building in the University housing ~950 research staff and students. In addition to specialist research laboratories, it houses a range of specialist small research facilities, write-up spaces, study spaces, seminar rooms, meeting rooms, offices, a computer lab, lecture theatre, café, kitchenettes and arrival spaces.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Facilities Supervisor for the DCHB, where you will lead a small team in the delivery of facilities and building management services befitting the evolving requirements of world leading research and teaching. 

In this role you will oversee day-to-day facilities support and routine maintenance of building services, plant and laboratory equipment in the building.

You will provide line management and supervision for the work of the facilities team and report to the Head of Facilities Management, deputising for them in their absence.

You will be responsible for management of key contracts such as cleaning, utilities supplies, autoclaving, waste disposal and departmental plant and equipment.

You will support space alteration and refurbishment projects ensuring these are completed with minimal disruption to the rest of the building occupants. 

This a permanent role.

The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.

You will have proven experience in mechanical & electrical practice and workshop machinery.

You will have staff management experience and the ability to motivate others as well as the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues in the wider facilities team, building users, and internal and external partners.

You will have procurement experience including the tendering of maintenance contracts and services using your strong negotiating skills.

You will have the ability to organise time efficiently and handle competing priorities.

Importantly, you will have a strong understanding of the health and safety considerations when working with the engineering infrastructure of laboratory facilities, including heating and ventilation.
