The Institute of Astronomy is seeking a proactive and motivated Building Services Technician and Safety Coordinator to play a crucial role in our facilities, building management and health and safety management. The successful candidate will be reliable, and will possess initiative to proactively manage their own time effectively

Key Responsibilities:

Undertake routine maintenance, improvement, and repair work on systems and equipment.

Collaborate with contractors and estates management staff to ensure the seamless operation of our facilities sitewide.

Act as Department Safety Officer and Department Fire Safety Officer, and advise on health and safety matters affecting the Institute.

Act as nominated security key holder for the department, with responsibility for the security of the department's buildings.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of facilities and / or building management, alongside health and safety management. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with the ability to deal calmly and politely with staff, students, visitors and contractors at all levels. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate factual and theoretical knowledge in custodial work and understand current Health and Safety legislation

Strong organisation skills, high accuracy and a proficiency with IT are essential. Previous experience of working in a university, research or similar complex setting would be beneficial. Having prior first aid experience and a readiness to serve as a departmental first aider would be advantageous.
