Job Description

As we continue to grow and strengthen our Department, we are seeking to make an appointment, at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, in the area of Global Digital Politics. Candidates will be striving to become scholars of international standing with a research and publication trajectory that illustrates this ambition. This post is an opportunity for a qualified individual to play a major role in shaping our vision of a diverse and innovative Department of Digital Humanities at one of the most prestigious universities in the UK.

The successful candidate will have an active research and teaching agenda on topics related to digital technology and politics in the global sphere. The candidate will be a specialist in one of the following areas: digital activism and social movements; data politics and digital governance; the global political economy of digital infrastructures, digital labour, the politics of digital transnationalism and mobility; digital geopolitics/conflict; and/or decolonial/postcolonial digital politics. We particularly welcome candidates who focus on non-Western settings, and/or with an interest in digital/computational methods.

Key responsibilities of the role are to deliver high-quality research and education, to contribute to the future development of the department, and to participate in a supportive, collegiate culture. There will be opportunities to be responsible for aspects of departmental administration. Mentorship will be provided to enable the postholder to gain experience and develop professionally.

The postholder will be encouraged to develop their own research interests, to secure research funding through grants, to develop collaborative links within academia and industry, and to participate in the activities of one or more of our Faculty centres or research groups: King’s AI Institute, Digital Futures Institute, Centre for Attention Studies, Creative AI Lab, Centre for Digital Culture, Global Digital Cultures Research Group, Queer Research Cluster, or Computational Humanities Research Group.

The role holder will enhance the education and experiences of our students, both for our fast-expanding MA/MSc programmes and the BA in Digital Media and Culture, teaching engaging, up-to-date courses and contributing to the development of our curricula and teaching methods.

We particularly welcome applications from members of under-represented communities, and from those who are willing to contribute to our ongoing conversations about reducing inequality at King’s.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post.
