London South Bank University are excited to be recruiting for the post of Research Fellow - Computational Fluid Dynamics, Tsunami.

This role will be based at HR Wallingford, Howbery Park, Wallingford OX10 8BA.

This position will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to join a longstanding collaboration between LSBU (London South Bank University) and HR Wallingford that has arisen through a new Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP). HR Wallingford is a world-leading hydraulic research consultancy. They have developed a significant technological advancement in the laboratory generation of tsunami waves for scientific and consultancy research using a pneumatic method.

The KTP scheme is a programme partly funded by Innovate UK to encourage collaboration between businesses and universities in the United Kingdom. It provides excellent opportunities and support for training and professional development. This includes a £4,000 training budget and 10% of associate time is dedicated to their personal development. The associate will have the opportunity to join the University’s pension scheme, with generous employer contributions.

This is a Full Time, Fixed Term opportunity, until April 2026.

About You:

We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:

  • Master's degree or ideally a PhD (or about to be awarded) in a relevant subject area including coastal and ocean engineering, civil engineering, physics or mathematics.
  • Good knowledge and experience of CFD tools based on finite-volume techniques and with nested grids, particularly OpenFOAM.
  • Expertise in at least one programming language such as Python, C++ or MATLAB
  • Strong IT skills and ability to utilise a variety of software such as CAD. Excellent research and analytical skills and the ability to take an active part in an interdisciplinary team.

Experience delivering research projects with commercial partners is also highly desirable.
