About the role

The Admissions Office is looking for an experienced admissions professional to oversee the day-to-day running of the undergraduate admissions operation at the University.

You will be deputy of the Undergraduate Admissions Officer, who heads up the UCAS team, and will be responsible for ensuring the swift, accurate and fair processing of all UCAS applications received at Sussex.

Working with the three Undergraduate Admissions Managers, you will lead a team of 14 Undergraduate Admissions and Senior Admissions Coordinators in turning decisions around promptly and providing an excellent experience for applicants.

As part of the Admissions Office leadership team, you will work alongside colleagues in Postgraduate Admissions and Scholarships to provide guidance to the Head of Admissions and input into strategic decisions around admissions. You will also lead on matters relating to UK qualifications and work closely with academic units to ensure selection templates are accurate and effective.

The Admissions Office comprises over 40 staff, split between Undergraduate Admissions, Postgraduate Admissions and a small Scholarships team. The Head of Admissions oversees the work of the whole office.

About you

We are looking for a knowledgeable, admissions professional, who has experience of leading on admissions functions. You will need to be friendly, organised, and efficient with excellent management qualities.

You will be leading the day-to-day undergraduate admissions operation, so will need to have:

  • A detailed knowledge and experience of UCAS, school-leaving qualifications; contextual admissions; and the Confirmation and Clearing operation;
  • An interest in, and experience of, working with students from the UK and across the globe and a commitment to ‘fair admissions’;
  • Strong diplomatic skills and the ability to work collaboratively to foster excellent working relationships with both the internal and external stakeholders involved in recruitment; and
  • Excellent attention to detail in an often-pressurised environment working to strict deadlines.
