The University of Glasgow is seeking to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer in Modern/Late-Modern Scottish History (Learning, Teaching and Scholarship Track) within the School of Humanities.

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to teaching and scholarship activities across our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Duties will include:

  • Delivery of lectures relating to modern-era Scotland on our flagship first year undergraduate course ‘History 1A: Scotland's Millennium: Kingdom, Union and Nation c 1000-1999’ (HIST1008), alongside seminars and assessment marking.
  • Contribution to our team-taught postgraduate course, ‘Issues, Ideologies and Institutions of Modern Scotland’ (HIST5012)
  • Sole teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level of one or more of the following modern Scottish History courses, relative to the successful applicant’s expertise:

HIST4203 Migrant Nation: Scotland and the Modern World 1745-1979

HIST4185 Devolving the Nation: Scotland 1945-2004

HIST5123 Scottish Radicalism 1848-1950

The successful applicant will also undertake administration and service activities in line with the School/College’s strategic objectives; develop their own taught courses aligned with the teaching needs of the History subject, and undertake undergraduate dissertation supervision; and pursue their own research and development of a publications/output portfolio.

The successful candidate must have proven and relevant research and teaching expertise in the field of 19th and/or 20th century Scottish History.

This position is 0.7FTE (24.5 hours per week) and fixed term from 1 August 2024 until 31 July 2026.
