About the Thomas Coram Research Unit

The Thomas Coram Research Unit (TCRU), where the post holder will be based, has a long history and expertise in researching those children and families that are most vulnerable to economic and social adversity.

Our work influences theoretical debates and public policies on: early childhood; children’s health, care and education services; children’s agency; young people’s identities; intersectionality; reproduction; motherhood and fatherhood; gender equality; family diversity; poverty including food poverty; parental leave; place-based inequalities; children’s language brokering; transnational families and practices; social pedagogy; work-family reconciliation; migration experiences.

About the role

We are now seeking a Lecturer in Social Psychology to contribute to the three undergraduate programmes in the Social Research Institute and to contribute to TCRU’s research streams.

The new post holder’s areas of teaching and research will ideally sit at the intersections of Psychological Social Psychology and Sociological Social Psychology, thus providing links between Psychology and Sociology, which are the core disciplines within the BSc Social Sciences degree and for TCRU research.

The post holder will be expected to: (a) lead the Social Psychology module, which is a required module for students in year two of the BSc Social Sciences; (b) lead a final year optional module on Social Justice and Social Psychology; and (c) contribute to teaching in other areas of psychology depending on their specific areas of expertise.

The postholder will join a vibrant and collegial research environment to which they would contribute.

The appointee will contribute to the life and functioning of the unit, department, faculty and UCL more broadly.

About you

You will have a PhD in Social Psychology, or a related area of study, and will be able to provide evidence of scholarship in Social Psychology which contributes to TCRU research including work of international profile, with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications.

You will also have excellent research skills in either qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods commonly used in Social Psychology.

Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.

It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.
