We are seeking to appoint an Agile Initiative Fellow to the NERC-funded Agile Initiative at the Oxford Martin School. Agile is experimenting with innovative ways of delivering high-quality, policy-relevant, rapid, and interdisciplinary environmental research. Our aim is to improve the way policy decisions are made and the relevance of research to them, while also supporting shifts in research culture at Oxford University and funders.

The Agile Initiative Fellow is a brand new fixed-term post to January 2027 (when the current phase of funding from NERC ends). You will conduct a range of interdisciplinary environmental research and programme activities for the Initiative. As this post has a strong interdisciplinary component, we welcome applications from researchers working on environmental issues within any of the natural, social, physical, or engineering sciences. You will have significant opportunity to shape the role to enhance your career, gaining research experience, leadership skills, working in an interdisciplinary way, and engaging with decision-makers to amplify the impact of Agile research and identify new research questions.

We are seeking to appoint at either Grade 7 (Research Associate) or Grade 8 (Senior Research Associate) depending on the experience of applicants. To be appointed at Grade 8 you will need to have significant postdoctoral research experience (e.g. 2+ years of postdoctoral experience, experience of working with decision-makers, and/or significant publication or funding successes) and provide strong evidence of experience and ability across the selection criteria.

This is not a standard post-doctoral post, but an exciting opportunity to be part of a cutting-edge research initiative, of significant strategic interest at the highest levels of Oxford University and within NERC and UKRI. The Agile leadership will provide mentoring and career development support throughout to ensure you gain the most value from the role.

The role is full-time, fixed-term until end of January 2027, and based in Oxford. The post would ideally commence in September-October time.

The Oxford Martin School supports the University’s commitment in fostering an inclusive culture which promotes equality and values diversity. We are eager to receive applications from a diverse pool of candidates.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your application, please see further guidance on the content of this statement in the job description.

Only applications received before 12.00 noon (UK time) on Friday 17th May 2024 can be considered.  Interviews are likely to be held in the week of 17th or 25th June 2024.
