Following the growing and ongoing success of SCAPP (Scotland’s Community of Access and Participation Practitioners), an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Development Manager to lead and manage SCAPP through the next stage of its development. Since its inception, SCAPP has continued to grow its networking and events activities, encouraging and supporting the emerging interest in Evaluation and Impact of Widening Participation activities and the increasing demand for the professional development of widening participation and access professionals, including its unique Professional Standards Framework and Accreditation Scheme. These activities will remain key to SCAPP’s work going forward.

The Development Manager’s role is all encompassing, balancing strategic development, leadership and management responsibilities - including management of SCAPP’s Learning and Development Coordinator - with the day to day operations of the network including communications (such as digital and social media content), development, management and coordination of SCAPP’s Working Groups, and negotiation and delivery of events and activities to ensure its continued growth, visibility, governance and sustainability as a Community of Practice.

Description of Duties

  • Provide leadership and a strategic overview and direction for SCAPP and its place within the widening access and widening participation landscape
  • Continue to build visibility and confidence in the network as a relevant, purposeful and practical body which will be sustainable and responsive to changing needs of the sector and its stakeholders
  • Developing the professional development of widening access and widening participation by building awareness, making connections and securing a sustainable future for SCAPP
  • Lead the ongoing development of the current membership subscription model

Essential Criteria

  • Educated or skills and experience at SCQF 9 degree level or equivalent
  • Current and demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the Scottish widening access and widening participation landscape and the external and political factors which impact upon the sector and underrepresented groups in tertiary education
  • Substantial experience of working in a widening access and participation role at senior level with a proven track-record of delivery
  • The ability to network and build meaningful relationships with senior colleagues, across the sector, and to maintain strong working partnerships
