This role is based at the Main Library George Square, Edinburgh in the heart of our Central Campus, also covering other buildings in Central campus (all within walking distance). There will be an occasional need to work from an alternative location to meet business needs. You will be part of a small and established team of Facilities Managers and there will be opportunities for overlap / skill sharing with this team. 

Working hours are 9am-5pm with 60-minute unpaid lunchbreak over Monday – Friday, with occasional weekend working by agreement. 

This post is directly managed by Craig Robertson (Facilities Operations Manager).

This is an open-ended i.e. permanent post.

 What the job involves: 

  • React and assist in the event of incidents and emergencies e.g. floods, emergency evacuation of buildings, operation of the emergency Evacuation Lift, supervision of emergency exits
  • Health & Safety, including safety walk round inspections, identifying hazards, writing risk assessments, meeting actions detailed in Fire Risk Assessments, scheduling and observing Fire Drills 
  • Work with building users around responding to queries, escalations and concerns 
  • Work with Estates colleagues to ensure minor repairs are carried out correctly and in a timely fashion
  • Line management of Supervisors
  • Work with Collections Managers regarding improving conditions for their spaces
  • Liaise with Projects teams to deliver projects in the least disruptive manner
