Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist

Neuronostics Limited

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis from 16/05/2024 until the post is filled.

Are you seeking a career with purpose?

Do you want to make a difference to the lives of millions of people?

Then join Neuronostics

Award-winning and rapidly growing, our mission is to enable fast and accurate diagnosis and treatment for everyone with a suspected neurological condition. Our vision is to create accessible technologies and deliver digital solutions that release the power of mathematical modelling and data science tools to benefit people with neurological conditions, their loved ones and those responsible for caring for them.

We are developing an exciting platform solution that we believe will have a significant impact on quality of life: accelerating time to diagnosis, reducing uncertainty and increasing objectivity in clinical decision making and management. Enabling seamless integration between clinical and at-home measurements, our first clinical product is BioEP: the biomarker of epilepsy, which can reveal the risk of future seizures from short segments of routinely collected brain data.

Our values

We work in partnership with specialist healthcare professionals, researchers and, most importantly, those with direct lived experience of neurological conditions. Our innovative solutions are built upon the highest standards of scientific rigour and peer review. We passionately believe Neuronostics should be accountable to all our stakeholders, displaying empathy and respect for the challenges they face.

The role of (Senior) Research Scientist

As a research scientist you will ensure our technologies are developed with a deep and thorough understanding of data from both clinical devices and wearable tech. Working within our scientific team, you will work closely with our technical, regulatory and clinical teams to add value to the company through your knowledge directly impacting the performance of our existing clinical decision support systems and home monitoring tools for epilepsy. As well as epilepsy, we are now developing tools for other neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury (TBI). You will work on a range of projects including algorithm and model development, data analytics and data visualisation. You will work very closely with stakeholders to ensure our research is presented elegantly in a manner that is fit for purpose. You will understand the need for our products to be appropriately regulated and ensure that code we develop is compliant with all relevant regulations. You will contribute to designing new studies and identifying new market opportunities and be passionate about communicating our findings through oral and written channels.

In this role you will:

  • Develop an analysis pipeline for data emerging from clinical partnerships and our own technologies;
  • Build mathematical models and computer algorithms for interrogating human brain data;
  • Contribute to the design of clinical studies for evaluating both our existing epilepsy biomarkers and to develop novel biomarkers for TBI and other neurological conditions;
  • Migrate and develop research codes (e.g. Matlab, R) into commercial grade codes in python;
  • Work with our business development team to identify and evolve new market opportunities (including grant funding) and to contribute to bids for funding to support company activities;
  • Contribute to the dissemination of key study findings through oral presentations and written publications; and
  • Promote Neuronostics as an organisation seeking to use data to enhance clinical diagnostics and management in neurology broadly.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Educated to at least Masters level;
  • Experience in a mathematical, statistical, or data science role where you have delivered exciting research findings. Ideally in a healthcare setting already, but if not, you’ll be passionate about wanting to apply your skills in this setting;
  • Experience in using a pragmatic approach to find the appropriate level of complexity for the problem at hand;
  • Identifying opportunities and contributing to impactful research findings;
  • Proficiency in Python;
  • Experience with Data Science and Machine Learning tools;
  • Competency in structuring complex databases and writing efficient code to extract and interpret relevant data;
  • Ability to visualise data in meaningful and exciting ways; and
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, for example gathering user requirements and translating our technologies in simple ways. Stakeholder engagement is at the heart of what we do.

Desirable:

  • A PhD in mathematics, computational neuroscience or other related area (essential for consideration for Senior level role);
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications (essential for consideration for Senior level role);
  • Understanding of data governance and GDPR;
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, R and C#;
  • Experience in cloud database technologies (e.g. Firebase);
  • Experience in network analysis of human brain data;
  • Experience of mathematical models of human brain networks; and
  • Clinical networks ideally in TBI and/or epilepsy.

We recognise that some candidates may meet only a subset of these criteria and we value applications that include an open conversation about strengths, experience and areas for future development.

What we can offer you

  • A key role with the opportunity to help shape the development of a rapidly growing digital MedTech company;
  • A flexible working model that enables you to work when you are most productive;
  • A competitive salary reflecting your level of experience and success;
