About the Role
The Research Degrees Officer provides a professional, specialised service to research degree students and staff. This includes advising on regulations, policies and processes for research degree programmes, managing student records; studentship funding; examination matters and contributing to the development and improvement of policies, processes, systems, and other projects concerning research degrees and within Registry Services. You will be a member of the team of three Research Degrees Officers, each of whom manages the service to a designated set of schools and institutes. This is a hybrid role in a student facing office. RDO staff work in the office 3 days per week, with the opportunity to work from home according to business requirements and the staff office rota.

About You
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in higher education administration, ideally with experience of a student facing role. They will have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the structure of research degree programmes, experience in interpreting complex academic regulations and providing advice to students and staff, experience of student records management, and experience of improving services and processes.

About the Department
The Research Degrees Office (RDO) is a team in Registry Services within the Student Experience Directorate of Queen Mary Professional Services. RDO manages research degree programme administration and policies and provides student services throughout the research student cycle from enrolment through to examination and award of degree. The RDO works closely with other teams in Registry Services, the Doctoral College and the Dean for Postgraduate Research and Faculty Deputy Deans for Research, and with academic staff and administrators in the faculties and academic schools and institutes in which research students are enrolled.

Registry Services is responsible for the maintenance of student records from the point of enrolment through to award. This includes the creation of an academic timetable, the organisation and delivery of invigilated examinations, the distribution of the Queen Mary bursary and other approved scholarships, ensuring compliance with Home Office rules, supporting the student record system and dealing with academic and regulatory queries from both students and academic colleagues.
