Post Summary

The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (SLLCS) warmly welcomes applications for the position of Schuler Assistant Professor in German Applied Linguistics. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, research active team and will be a key member contributing to teaching and research excellence and innovation.

This is a full time post, 5-year fixed term, with tenure track.

Salary: Appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor at a point in line with Government Pay Policy [€40,594 - €97,588 per annum; www.tcd.ie/hr/assets/pdf/monthly-academic.pdf. Appointment at postdoctoral level starts on point 8 (Merged Scale, €56,630) in the first instance, honouring the relevant scale point for colleagues already in the public service in Ireland.

  • A cover letter outlining how their experience makes them suitable for the role (2 pages max.)
  • A comprehensive curriculum vitae, including a full list of publications.
  • The names and contact details (i.e. address, e-mail, etc.) of three referees.
  • A research plan (summarising research to be carried out in the next three to five years and including details of funding to be sought – 2 pages max.)
  • A teaching statement (summarising teaching philosophy, and experience – 2 pages max.)
  • A sample syllabus of 2 potential original modules (5ECTS, one for undergraduates, one for postgraduate students) that could be offered in a research-led context (with teaching over 11 weeks and normally 2 hours per week), plus a separate list specifying areas of expertise that could be covered in terms of research-informed teaching.

  • Please note that all essential requirements must be met.
  • Please do not include materials not requested at this stage, e.g. transcripts, sample publications, copies of degrees, etc.
  • Candidates who do not address the application requirements above (as stated) will not be considered at the shortlist stage and will be automatically eliminated from the competition.
  • Candidates should note that the interview process for this appointment will include the delivery of a research-based presentation and may include a test of practical skills.
