A position exists for Research Associate / Senior Research Associate in Radio Astronomy Data Analysis.
The aim of the role is to develop data analysis pipelines for the SKA radio telescope (as part of the SKA Software Construction project). The successful candidate will have up to 40% of their time to dedicate to independent research. We encourage applicants with a research line aligned with one of the SKA Key Science Projects and/or related projects. Preference will be given to applicants with a background in 21-cm radio cosmology experiments (e.g. HERA, LOFAR, MWA, MeerKat, EDGES, REACH, etc.).
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Astronomy, Physics, Engineering or closely related field with a proven track record in Radio Astronomy Data Analysis. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Aperture Synthesis, as demonstrated by publications in major journals. A solid understanding of Python and or C++/C programming is desired.
The candidate will be comfortable working in multidisciplinary international teams of researchers using agile techniques. Training will be provided as needed.
The post holder will be located at the Department of Physics, Cavendish Laboratory, JJ Thomson Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 0HE.
You will be offered one of the following two salary grades: Research Associate: £36,024- £44,263, Senior Research Associate: £45,585 to £57,696; depending on the skills and experience you are able to bring to the role.
Appointment at Senior Research Associate is subject to approval by the Faculty Board.
