About the role
The University of Sussex is seeking to make an appointment to the role of Senior Security Manager to lead on the effective and strategic management of our campus security arrangements.
This role will form a critical part of our new Estates and Facilities Management Services, by embedding an Intelligent Client function into the University EFM Team to oversee, steer and effectively manage the delivery of services by our provider and partner organisations.
The campus is 95 hectares and has over 100 buildings, comprising of academic and residential living spaces, social, study and entertainment spaces, as well as extensive external realm.
With circa 5000 students living on campus, and a total of around 18,000 studying with us, Security and Safety are paramount. We need a professional able to navigate between Strategic and Tactical level decision making and engagement, to Operation steer and support to the Service Providers own Security Manager.
While there will be no direct reports, there is a team of 21 Security Core Team members, who’s delivery will fall part of this role holders’ responsibilities. The main areas being the provision of policy arrangements to the Service Provider, the auditing of delivery against contractual obligations and the measurement of performance.
Equally important will be the ability to brief University Leaders on local, national and global threats that might cause difficulties to normal campus operations.
The role holder will report directly to the Head of Service Delivery and this post forms part of an essential and critical management function.
