We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Laboratory and Facilities Assistant to assist in the co-ordination and management of a broad range of essential services and projects pertaining to the Centre for Human Genetics, with direction from the Senior Technician, the Deputy Building and Facilities Manager and the NDM Health and Safety team.
The Building for Genomic Medicine (CHG Building) comprises approximately 6,500sqm of laboratory and office space for the delivery of world-leading research into the genetics and structural biology of human diseases. It houses over 600 building users, across three units:
- Centre for Human Genetics (CHG)
- CAMS-Oxford Institute (COI)
- Division of Structural Biology
You will be responsible for undertaking regular building checks, and proactively identifying areas for improved presentation, or requiring maintenance. You will be assisting with the upkeep and maintenance of common areas within the laboratories to ensure compliance with good laboratory practices. You will be a point of contact for the reporting of defective scientific and office equipment and arrange, as necessary, on and off-site service and repairs and will be assisting in monitoring and maintaining general health and safety within the laboratories.
To be successful in this role, you will hold GCSE level qualifications to a minimum of grade C/4 in English and Mathematics (or equivalent qualifications). You will be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing at various levels and be able to recognise safe practices and ensure people undertaking work are doing so using appropriate safety procedures and in the correct dedicated areas. Finally, you will have an organised approach to work, with efficient time management and respect and deploy confidentiality at all times.
