About the role:
We are looking for a talented Research Associate to join us working on an exciting project supervised by Dr Deepa Jayakody Arachchillage. You will be based in the Centre for Haematology, Department of Immunology and Inflammation at Imperial College London’s Hammersmith Campus.
This post is funded by a MRC Clinical Fellowship awarded to Dr Jayakody Arachchillage, which aims to provide an understanding into new therapeutic approaches (treatment methods) for patients with stroke and APS, without increasing side effects such as risk of bleeding. This will be achieved by investigating the difference between current anticoagulants (blood thinners) and the importance of the endothelium as a treatment target to prevent thrombosis.
You will work closely with Dr Jayakody Arachchillage and her collaborators in the Centre for Haematology, as well as those within Imperial’s National Heart and Lung Institute.
What you would be doing:
The successful candidate will analyse samples using a number of cell culture techniques including endothelial cell cultures, megakaryocytes isolated from CD34+ hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells to isolate platelets and molecular biology techniques including immunofluorescent staining , IgG isolation from patient samples, qPCR and flow cytometry and neutrophil extracellular trap formation. Coagulation assays include thrombin generation, pure component assays, fibrinolysis tests, platelet function tests also expect to work on flow-based assay using microfluidics.
As part of your development, you will attend relevant workshops, local research seminars and lab meetings, and will develop contacts within the College and the wider community.
