The post of Employer Relations Officer is situated within the Employers Relations team, which is part of a wider External Engagement team at Careers Network. The post involves establishing, maintaining and account managing employer relationships across a range of targeted sectors to increase access to opportunities for students and graduates and to enhance the student experience.
The post holder will create opportunities for employers to meet with students and graduates for purposes including recruitment, skills development, employability progression and networking. This will include project managing, organising and delivering large-scale recruitment fairs and employer event programmes, and collaboration to secure employers’ involvement in sector panels, skills development sessions and in-curriculum involvement.
Main Duties
Employer engagement, research and business development
- Lead on liaising with employers, professional bodies, University departments and relevant sources of intelligence to develop a network of knowledge, contacts and opportunities in relevant sectors.
- Identify relevant opportunities for new partnerships or engagement across relevant College sectors, taking ownership for delivering against agreed targets for new engagement and student opportunities and taking an account management approach for agreed target employers.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
- Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications/experience).
- Demonstrable relevant previous experience in business development, events organisation and project management and evidence of delivering a high-quality service in a customer-facing role.
- Strong understanding of the student and graduate experience and current issues impacting on employability and graduate recruitment.
- Evidence of literacy and numeracy, with the ability to write clearly, and to analyse information and data.
- Highly proficient IT skills, including the wider MS Office suite of programmes and experience of custom systems and databases.
- Excellent interpersonal skills. The post holder must inspire confidence and command authority with a range of colleagues and provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills to produce reports, identify issues and resolve them decisively.
- A high degree of initiative, personal judgement, resourcefulness, flexibility, and a self-motivating approach.
- A high degree of professionalism, tact, and diplomacy, and the ability to exercise discretion regarding the handling and management of sensitive information/issues.
- Ability to understand policy, processes and procedures, but also to recommend improvements and implement changes.
- Ability to work effectively in a large, complex organisation, and to develop a good understanding of how the University and higher education institutions work.
- Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day-to-day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
