Head and neck cancer is the 8th most common cancer in the UK with approximately 12,500 new cases diagnosed each year. NHS England currently funds LSHTM and the Royal College of Surgeons of England to evaluate the quality of care nationally for 10 cancer types, but head and neck cancer is not yet included. To address this, the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists(BAHNO) has funded LSHTM (Principal Investigators: Dr Thomas Cowling and Prof Kate Walker) to conduct a feasibility study for a national clinical audit for head and neck cancer.
You will take a leading role in delivering this new evaluation of NHS services for head and neck cancer patients, in collaboration with leading clinicians from the Royal Marsden Hospital, The Institute of Cancer Research, and the Royal College of Surgeons of England and will be central in translating this evidence into policy information. The role will involve all aspects of project delivery, including data analysis, preparation of publications, and study management.
The post-holder should have a doctoral degree in a quantitative or health discipline along with experience of analysing large complex datasets, proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a research team, proven ability to meet research deadlines, and evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is full-time 35 hours per-week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term until 31 March 2026 with the possibility of being extended. The post is funded by (BAHNO) (https://bahno.org.uk/) and is available immediately.
The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 7 in the range £52,199 - £59,623 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
