Applications are invited for the University’s prestigious Regius Chair of Medical Science, which is vacant following the retirement of Sir John Savill.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding medical scientist to the post. The major remit of the role is to provide outward-facing integrated strategic leadership in medical research and innovation, supporting the University’s 2030 strategic plan and the vision for developing the University’s BioQuarter as the UK’s leading Health Innovation District. This role complements CMVMs expert Deans to bring together a transformative vision across disciplines that will help college grow and shape our research capability to achieve maximal impact and societal benefit.

The postholder will report to the Head of College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and support the College Dean of Research. The Regius Chair will be a member of the College Senior Leadership Team and member of the College Research Committee.

We anticipate NHS Lothian will offer an honorary consultant contract for applicants who remain clinically active.

We welcome applications from everyone irrespective of gender or ethnic group. As women and members of ethnic minorities are currently under-represented in posts at this level we particularly encourage applications from members of these groups.

Informal Enquiries can be made, in confidence to Professor David Argyle, Head of College and Vice Principal for Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (David.argyle@ed.ac.uk).

We encourage all applicants to apply online at www.jobs.ed.ac.uk. The application process is quick and easy to follow, and you will receive email confirmation of safe receipt of your application. The online system allows you to submit a CV.

  • A full academic CV, including your contributions to supporting the wider research system; and
