The University-wide Language Programme (UWLP) is looking for an enthusiastic hourly-paid Teacher of Japanese to join their team. To deliver a more commercially driven environment, it is highly desirable for Tutors to adopt a flexible approach and collaborate with fellow tutors, the programme coordinator and administrator and professional services to respond effectively to a fast-changing and increasingly demanding student base. 

We are looking for an individual with experience in teaching within UK Higher Education with excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills, who displays high standards of professionalism, and a positive collegiate mind set. 

Role Purpose: 

  • Deliver language and skills team-teaching.
  • Contribute to the pastoral support of students as well as to quality assurance.
  • Take on areas of responsibility within Salford Languages, building effective relationships with support staff and the wider university to do so.
  • Play a central role in the enhancement of the student experience and the smooth operation of Salford Languages 

Main Responsibilities 

  • Participate as a member of one or more teaching teams throughout the calendar year, effectively delivering and providing pedagogic input into language and skills classes in various settings, including but not limited to credit-bearing language modules. 
  • Design and deliver relevant teaching materials. Shape content, methods of delivery and learning materials to meet the learning objectives in the most engaging way possible, while coordinating and collaborating effectively with management and the wider teaching team(s).
  • Liaising closely with colleagues and external examiners, assess students throughout the duration of their courses by regularly creating, providing and marking both formative and summative evaluations and giving detailed feedback. 
  • Identify areas where current provision needs revision or enhancement and liaise with colleagues and management to realise these. 
  • Demonstrate good practice in teaching, learning and assessment, informed by research and student feedback and in line with the goals of the University and the expectations of relevant professional bodies. 

Working pattern – on-campus delivery: 

  • Japanese Stage 1: Tuesdays 18:00-20:00
  • Japanese Stage 2: Tuesdays 16:00-18:00
