About the Role
This role provides high-level leadership support to the McClelland research lab in the general management of the group, being responsible for financial, operational and resource management. The role will also involve defining and investigating research questions and establishing and improving protocols, as well as providing significant contributions towards writing research papers and grant applications. The postholder will provide specialist advice, guidance and mentoring of group members, and will involve significant teaching responsibilities on behalf of the group leader.
About You
With post-doctoral experience in a cancer biology field, including knowledge and experience with single cell sequencing technologies, cell biology, microscopy, and molecular biology you will see this as an opportunity to join a progressive and high performing research lab. You will have experience of managing research finances (>£1m per year) and of applying for independent research funds. You will have the ability to engage with colleagues via supervising undergraduate, MSc and PhD students, and research technicians, ensuring they have the ability to develop. Your interpersonal skills will support initiating, leading and partnering with other researchers and support services in projects.

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. It is one of six institutes within The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists from the Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine and the Barts NHS Trust to achieve improvements in cancer patient care. BCI is also a partner in the CRUK City of London Major Centre (together with UCL, Kings and the Francis Crick Institute) which is a Centre of Excellence in Biotherapeutics. BCI is committed in supporting and developing future cancer researchers through its extensive postgraduate training.
