Award-winning academic publisher, Open Library of Humanities, is seeking an outstanding Editorial Officer with excellent organisation and communication skills for a remote role this Summer. 

Join Birkbeck, University of London, and play a crucial role in managing and supporting the editorial processes across the Open Library of Humanities' extensive portfolio of academic journals.

As Editorial Officer you'll receive a salary of £34,346 rising to £38,443 per year, with remote working and flexible core hours from 9 am to 5 pm. The position is fixed-term for 18 months, providing an opportunity to contribute specialist expertise to Birkbeck's academic community.

As Editorial Officer you will undertake editorial duties and help oversee editorial processes across the academic journals published by the Open Library of Humanities (OLH) including: 

  • Liaising with external journals, editors, authors, and peer reviewers and communicating with journal editorial teams and resolving queries as needed,
  • Solving day-to-day publishing workflow issues or referring editors on for further editorial or technical expertise,
  • Regular contact with external suppliers for typesetting and production services,
  • Copyediting and proofreading duties for the OLH journal,
  • Editorial and outreach assistance as required, and ensuring internal records are kept up to date.

The ideal Editorial Officer will:

  • Be highly productive and motivated with demonstrable knowledge of academic conventions and editorial processes,
  • Have a strong background in academic writing in the humanities,
  • Have the ability to use, or learn to use, journal content management systems, and to work collaboratively and supportively as part of a team,
  • Be expected to be an independent worker with outstanding problem-solving skills and a strong record of professional communications - ideally with a completed PhD in a humanities subject,
  • Have strong and proven communication skills, and the ability to converse professionally with everyone that you encounter in this role.
