Are you brilliant at biology and metabolic challenges? Birkbeck, University of London is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the School of Natural Sciences and teach part-time this coming year 2025.
As Associate Lecturer you would teach the module:
As Associate Lecturer you will teach on Metabolic Challenges in Health and Disease (MCHD), a 15 credit, Level 5 module on our BSc Biomedicine programme.
You will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching within the biological sciences and to providing support to students that fosters academic growth.
The module syllabus has been designed and the teaching materials already exist although you will have some freedom to refine these and also to contribute to the design of the assessments, subject to the specifications in place.

Salary:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract:
MCHD is taught in the Autumn Term (Oct-Dec) on Thursdays 1-4 pm and 6-9 pm. Sessions start 02/10 for 4 weeks. After 1-week break, sessions resume for another 4 weeks. After another 1-week break, the module concludes with assessment sessions, 1-4 pm and 6–9 pm. Then a single session, likely 4–7 pm, for late-sit assessments on 8 January 2026.
The work will require 48 contact hours of teaching, plus 6 hours of test invigilation as well as organisation, communication with students, student support, and assessment marking.
