About the Role
This role plays a crucial part in fostering collaborations between the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) at QMUL and industry partners. The Business Development Manager will facilitate research partnerships, helping to translate academic research into real-world applications.
Working within QMUL’s Research Services Directorate, the post-holder will be part of an established Business Development team that collaborates with academic staff to identify and develop funding opportunities, manage relationships with key external partners, and ensure the successful delivery of joint research projects.
Additionally, the post-holder will engage with Professional Services teams such as the Joint Research Management Office and Queen Mary Innovation Ltd.
The role is client-facing and requires on-campus work at Whitechapel Campus, with occasional off-site meetings.
About You
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (PhD is desirable) and a solid understanding of research funding and the innovation processes. Your background enables effective collaboration with researchers and external partners, particularly within the health and life sciences sectors.
Experience in business development, consultancy, or managing industry-academic partnerships is desirable, along with knowledge of IP, research contracts, and funding schemes that support industry interaction. You will be confident in managing multiple projects, building strong stakeholder relationships, and communicating effectively with diverse audiences with excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and organisational skills and you are proactive, client-focused, and motivated to translate research into real-world impact.
About the Department
The role is based in the Business Development team as part of QMUL’s Research Services Directorate. The team develops research and commercial based knowledge projects with external organisations from business, industry, government, and voluntary sectors.
