Background

We are seeking an experienced and autonomous researcher to join the PURSUIT study, a research project funded by the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit programme, with the aim of developing and refining a multi-component behaviour change intervention for reducing delay and increasing identification of work-related asthma in primary care.

Work-related asthma affects 1 in 4 people of working-age with asthma in the UK, and these patients have more time off work and are generally more disabled than those with asthma unrelated to work. Occupational asthma (that caused by work) costs the UK £1 billion every ten years, and almost all of this is through NHS healthcare costs and state benefits. Earlier detection can reduce this burden through better treatment and halting or reversal of the disease process.

  • Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
  • Contribute to Departmental/School teaching-related activities and teaching -related administration
  • Where appropriate, contribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader
  • Provide guidance, as required, to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
  • Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.
