Play a defining role in global philanthropy. Do your best work here.

At Cambridge University Development and Alumni Relations, we're more than fundraisers, we're partners in progress. We are seeking two exceptional individuals to join us as Principal Gift Directors - roles responsible for cultivating and securing gifts of £10 million and above in support of one of the world's most forward-thinking institutions.

The Opportunity

As a Principal Gift Director, you will:

  • Work in close partnership with the Vice-Chancellor, academic leaders, and the University's most committed supporters.
  • Design and deliver bespoke strategies for principal-level philanthropists that align with Cambridge's highest priorities - from climate solutions and global health to AI, social justice, and widening participation.
  • Represent Cambridge at the highest levels, engaging donors with clarity, intellectual rigour, and authenticity.
  • Shape and sustain long-term philanthropic relationships that result in transformational outcomes for the University.

You will be part of a world-class advancement operation - one of the most successful in Europe and among the top 50 globally. These roles represent a strategic investment in our future and in the power of philanthropy to shape it.

Why Cambridge?

At Cambridge, we believe philanthropy enables the breakthroughs that change lives which is more relevant than ever in today's world. As a Principal Gift Director, you will:

  • Join a mission-led, high-performing team that partners with donors to help tackle some of the most urgent global challenges.
  • Operate within a uniquely well-resourced environment, with access to exceptional systems, data, and networks that support your success.
  • Be part of something bigger, helping to shape the future of research, education, and global progress.
  • Enjoy professional growth, with mentoring and engagement in one of the most intellectually stimulating environments anywhere.
  • Work flexibly and sustainably, with generous benefits and wellbeing support to help you thrive inside and outside work.
  • Be welcomed into a culture of inclusion, where diverse perspectives are valued and everyone's contribution is recognised.

We are investing in our people, our culture, and our story. These roles are central to that evolution. You'll be working alongside a close-knit team of expert colleagues, supported by leaders who are ambitious for what fundraising at Cambridge can achieve.

About You

You are a confident, strategic senior fundraiser with a proven record of securing principal or transformational gifts. You bring intellectual curiosity, sound judgement, and the ability to operate effectively and credibly with senior internal and external stakeholders.

You understand the nuance and diplomacy required to build trust at the highest level. You are motivated by mission, purpose, and long-term thinking - and thrive in environments that challenge you to be your best.

Experience in higher education or a similarly complex institution is valuable, but not essential. What matters most is your ability to build relationships that lead to truly impactful and transformational giving.

Cambridge is where fundraising meets purpose at scale. If you are inspired by excellence, collaboration, and lasting impact - we would be delighted to hear from you.
