Mental Health Adviser is part of a small and friendly Student Support Services department which comprises counselling, student advice (disability, general advice, financial hardship, accommodation) careers service and Chaplaincy. You will work as part of the wider Student Support Services team in providing both reactive and proactive support to students.
The main focus is in responding to the mental health and wellbeing needs of School-based students including those with a diagnosed mental health condition.
This role involves contact with students and applicants, case working individual support, making recommendations for academic adjustments and in assisting students access to NHS and specialist support services as well as triaging and making referrals to other LSHTM staff as necessary.
You should hold a degree level or equivalent (qualified by experience) and a professional qualification in a relevant clinical or healthcare discipline (e.g. Nursing, Social Work, Counselling/Psychotherapy, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy etc.). You should have experience of providing short- and medium-term support to people experiencing poor mental health (preferably but not necessarily within a University context). You will be a strong team player, able to work under pressure including working with students who are at risk of significant harm. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is part-time 17.5 hours per week, 0.5 FTE and fixed-term (maternity cover) until 31 July 2026.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £45,097 - £51,156 per annum pro-rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
