About the Role

As Director, you'll work with researchers, academics, and technology teams to design and maintain robust technical architecture that powers everything from high-performance computing to enterprise applications and cloud infrastructure.

You'll be a key member of the DDaT senior leadership team, responsible for:

  • Leading the development of a university-wide Technology Strategy aligned with our Digital Strategy.
  • Driving innovation and data capability to support transformational research and education projects.
  • Providing strategic leadership for research computing services, including HPC, data storage, and scientific software.
  • Overseeing engineering teams to ensure systems are performant, integrated, and aligned with business needs.
  • Establishing architectural governance and technical design authority.

About You

We're looking for a strategic thinker with:

  • Strong technical and architectural expertise in modern platforms and applications.
  • Experience in research computing and data integration in complex enterprise environments.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide technical teams through change.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage stakeholders from researchers to senior executives.
  • A degree in computer science, data science, or a related field, with Chartered status or equivalent experience.

You'll bring knowledge of agile methodologies, enterprise architecture, and modern development practices, along with experience in cloud technologies, data architecture, and HPC infrastructure. A background in project management (e.g. PRINCE2) is highly desirable.
