This new full time post is available from October 2025 on a fixed term basis for 18 months.
The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate or a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the work of Pro Albert Chen. This European Commission and UK Research and Innovation funded post is available immediately for a fixed term of 18 months, with potential opportunity for renewal based on the performance.
The successful applicant will contribute to the project NATALIE by developing AI algorithms that integrate data from various sources to identify patterns and correlations between variables and enhance the understanding the impact of spatiotemporal variables in climatic events. The algorithms will further assess the environmental attributes to identify feasible nature based solutions (NBS) and evaluate their performances to provide decision support.
The successful applicant will focus on applying machine learning technologies to establish a small data approach to ensure data quality and trustworthy for the elaboration and application of data-driven and AI algorithms. This data contextualisation will enable to apply explainable AI to understand physical interrelation and connections between regional impacts and the implementation of the NBS.
The post will include delivering research outputs in the form of weekly reports, contributions to conferences, and scientific articles.
About you
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies, possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the urban water management to develop research programmes and methodologies.
The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Travel to meetings and workshops in overseas countries during the post will be required.
