The Department of Anatomy is seeking to appoint a 0.5FTE Teaching fellow with expertise in topographic anatomy and tissue pathology and histology. The applicant should have experience of teaching using whole body and prosected specimens using a range of delivery methods and to diverse audiences. We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic educator with a track record of excellence and ability to inspire and innovate in higher education. The successful applicants will provide academic and pastoral support to students and work closely with colleagues across the Faculty and university.

The post holders will:

  • Devote their time to the support and delivery of high-quality education
  • Deliver high quality teaching, with a focus on topographic anatomy, but with an ability to contribute across biomedical science education including Tissue pathology and histology.
  • Provide student support and undertake education-related administrative and leadership duties as directed by the Head of Teaching Department or Co-Director of Centre for Education

The Anatomy Department delivers gross anatomy teaching across medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy and biomedical sciences. We are seeking a skilled anatomist who will contribute across the range of our teaching and with a vision that embraces research and new approaches to anatomy education.

The post holder will be accountable for maintaining the quality of their teaching and will contribute to the peer support of others to sustain and develop high quality education. Academic citizenship through academic-related activities that underpin excellence in education is expected.

This post will be offered on an Fixed Term contract for 2 years. This is a 0.5FTE post - 50% full time equivalent.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. PhD in the biosciences or related subject or equivalent experience.
  2. Experience of delivering quality teaching and learning, in particular at undergraduate level and including evidence of developing new innovative teaching approaches.
  3. Excellent communication skills – written and spoken – including publications, conference presentations, engagement with a wide audience from the public, industry, professional bodies and peers.
  4. Expertise in blended learning and online teaching delivery, including content delivery on KEATS/Moodle or similar virtual learning environment.
  5. Good organisational and administrative skills.
  6. Proven commitment to ongoing skills development and training.
  7. Commitment to student experience

Desirable criteria

  1. HEA fellowship or relevant teaching qualification.
  2. Proactive in creating and developing interactions and collaborations with colleagues with an ability to function within a team and to plan and prioritise workload.
  3. Experience in curriculum design and development and of evaluating learning outcomes.
