About the Blavatnik School of Government

Our vision is of a world better led, a world better served and a world better governed. We are a global school committed to improving the quality of government and public policymaking worldwide, through three routes: teaching current and future leadersgenerating research with impact; and engaging with governments and practitioners.

What we offer

The School is a collaborative, friendly, and dynamic department based in an award-winning building in Oxford. We host regular events and talks with well-known guest speakers – all of which are open to staff. On the social side, we have regular coffee/cake mornings for staff, a family-friendly Halloween event, and Christmas and summer parties.

About the role

The Blavatnik School of Government is looking to recruit a professional, highly organised and self-starting Communications Project Officer to join the What Works Hub for Global Education, a £30m six-year global research and policy programme focused on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for children across the Global South.

Reporting to the Hub’s Fund Manager, with close links to the Programme Director, you will communicate the programme’s mission and findings to a range of audiences including policy makers in target countries, leading global academics, and international organisations. This will involve updating the Hub’s website and social media channels, creating and disseminating content, overseeing briefings and events, and coordinating with implementation partners in country.

You will also offer hands-on support on a range of activities relating to communications and events, diary management, programme coordination, and helping convene a group of more than 100 education stakeholders from around the world (called the Community of Practice). The role will involve working closely with our strategic and consortium partners, to ensure that communications and engagement activities are targeted effectively to different audiences and country contexts.

You will also have strong links into the Blavatnik School’s corporate Communications and Events team, who will provide senior guidance and support on communications and engagement.

This post is to cover the absence of the substantive postholder, who is taking a period of maternity leave. The post is available for 12 months or the actual return of the substantive postholder, or the resignation of the substantive postholder and employment of a new postholder, whichever is the earliest.

About you

You will hold an undergraduate degree, or have equivalent experience, and have excellent communication skills. You should have previous experience successfully working in a communication-focused role, and a flexible can-do approach, self-motivation, resilience and a willingness to adapt to the changing needs and priorities of the project.

A high level of attention to detail, and strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills are also essential.

Application process

Please upload a supporting statement that outlines how you meet the selection criteria in your own words, along with your CV, a writing sample (ideally published), and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon (UK time) on Friday 22 August 2025.
